CAMERATA NOV’ARTE
Sediada no Porto, a Camerata Nov’Arte é um projeto musical independente que, numa perspetiva de salutar troca de experiências, integra desde instrumentistas e cantores de reconhecida carreira no panorama artístico nacional, a jovens freelancers no início do seu percurso. Os pontos unificadores são o mérito e o talento, aliados a uma vontade de (re)criar a Arte dos Sons em cada concerto.
Propondo-se como uma estrutura leve e flexível, insere-se numa filosofia de formação de geometria variável, assumindo em cada momento e em cada espectáculo o efetivo instrumental específico para o projeto que está a desenvolver. O objectivo é, por um lado, proporcionar uma experiência musical/ auditiva mais rica e apelativa, quer aos artistas envolvidos, quer ao público ouvinte. Por outro, alarga-se o leque de repertório alvo, que se pretende seja vasto, ecléctico e representativo das mais variadas estéticas da história da Música, do barroco à contemporaneidade, onde, com inegável sentido de missão, especial atenção é dada à música portuguesa, quer ao nível de compositores, como dos intérpretes.
Sob a direção artística e musical de Luís Carvalho, seu fundador, o grupo tem desenvolvido projetos artísticos diferenciados e inovadores, nomeadamente cruzamentos disciplinares com teatro e programas temáticos como os ciclos «Romantismo à lupa» e «Impressionismo à lupa», onde se abordam obras do grande repertório sinfónico em formatos instrumentais mais compactos (no espírito da Sociedade Privada de Concertos, fundada por Arnold Schoenberg e seus seguidores nos anos 1920s, em Viena), ou «Classicismo, Neoclassicismo, Revivalismo» e «Barroco/Neo-barroco», onde compositores clássicos são justapostos com outros mais modernos.
A Camerata Nov’Arte estreou-se em 2011 no Cistermúsica/Festival Internacional de Música de Alcobaça, e desde então tem-se apresentando em importantes eventos de dimensão nacional e internacional, como o Festival Jovens Músicos da RDP/Antena 2 (Lisboa), os Festivais de Outono (Aveiro), o Festival Internacional de Música de Verão de Paços de Brandão, o Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão, ou o Festival de Inverno de Domingos Martins (Brasil), e em salas icónicas como o Grande Auditório da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, o Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisboa), o Conservatório de Música do Porto, o Auditório de Espinho, o Museu Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (Amarante) e ainda o Teatro Carlos Gomes em Vitória (ES – Brasil). Pontos altos do seu percurso incluem a estreia absoluta da reinvenção dos esboços para grande ensemble gizada por Carvalho para a Sinfonia nº10 (inacabada) de Gustav Mahler (2014), a apresentação da versão encenada da História do Soldado de Stravinsky/Ramuz, numa parceria com a companhia teatral Mundo Razoável (2015), e, a nível internacional, duas importantes digressões – em Julho/2013 ao Brasil (estado de Espírito Santo – ES), e em Abril/2019 à Eslováquia, onde gravou para a Rádio Estatal Eslovaca, em Bratislava. Em 2023 é lançado o primeiro CD do grupo, dedicado à nova versão para ensemble da Sinfonia nº7 de Anton Bruckner, preparada em 2019 por Luís Carvalho.

Camerata Nov’Arte is an independent music project based in Porto, Portugal, which, in its aim to promote a healthy exchange of experiences across different generations of excellent musicians, includes some of the most talented instrumentalists and singers working in the country, from young upcoming artists at the beginning of their careers, to experienced performers and renowned soloists. Merit and talent are the unifying points, allied with the desire to (re)create the art of sound in each concert.
Conceived as a light and flexible structure, Camerata Nov’Arte adopts a different configuration for each project/concert, according to the specifics of the repertoire to be presented. The aim is to enrich the timbral diversity of the group whilst providing the listener with a richer sonic experience, at the same time seeking to broaden its repertoire, approaching a vast and eclectic body of works from the baroque to the contemporary, where the multiple aesthetics of the history of music can find their space and place. Each element of the group is also encouraged to bring to the collective their uniqueness and individuality, in a mutually beneficial process constantly enriched by the diversity of contributions.
Under the artistic and musical direction of Luís Carvalho, the group has presented many varied and innovative artistic projects, notably crossover partnerships with theatre and the cycles ‘Romanticism through the lens’ and ‘Impressionism through the lens’, that see major works of the great symphonic repertoire presented in fresh and inventive readings for reduced instrumental forces, in the spirit of Schoenberg’s Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen (Private Society for Musical Performances) of 1920s Vienna. Other projects include themed concerts such as ‘Classicism, Neoclassicism, Revivalism’ and ‘Baroque/Neo-baroque’, in which great masters of the past are juxtaposed with modern/contemporary composers.
Camerata Nov’Arte made its debut at the Cistermúsica Festival (Alcobaça/2011), and ever since has performed at important events, such as the Young Musicians Festival RTP/Antena 2 (Lisbon), the Autumn Festival (Aveiro), the Paços de Brandão Summer Music Festival, the Marvão International Music Festival, and the Domingos Martins Winter Music Festival (Brazil), and in iconic venues including the Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), Belém Cultural Centre (CCB/Lisbon), Porto Conservatoire of Music, Espinho Auditorium, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum (Amarante), and the Carlos Gomes Theatre in Vitória (Espírito Santo, Brazil). Career highlights include the world premiere of Carvalho’s reinvention of the draft for large ensemble for Gustav Mahler’s unfinished Symphony No. 10 (2014), the staging of Stravinsky/Ramuz’ L'Histoire du soldat in a collaboration with Mundo Razoável (2015), and two international tours – to Brazil (Espírito Santo/2013), and to Slovakia (2019), including a recording for Slovak State Radio in Bratislava. 2023 sees the release of their first disc, dedicated to the new version for ensemble of Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7, arranged in 2019 by Luís Carvalho.
